Round 3 of the Whilton Mill Kart Club Championship took place on 23 and 24 May 2026, with Nelson Taylor lining up in the Junior Max class for Tooley Motorsport. It was a hot weekend, with temperatures hitting 28 degrees by the time the A Final got underway, and the conditions tested every driver on the grid across a long day of racing.

Qualifying

Saturday qualifying saw Nelson post a best lap of 46.35 seconds to finish P7 in Group 1. The top of the group was separated by fractions, with the winner posting 46.05. Nelson was 0.30 seconds off the pace in a session where track limits disallowed laps for several drivers. P7 was a solid position to build from heading into Sunday.

Heat 2 (BvD)

Nelson’s first race of the day was Heat 2, the BvD group. He started from the middle of the grid and ran a consistent race throughout to finish P10, posting a best lap of 46.32 seconds. The pace was competitive and the result kept him in the mix for the A Final.

A Final

Starting P13 in the A Final, Nelson climbed through the field to finish P13 after 14 laps, posting a best lap of 46.64 seconds. That lap time placed him among the quickest in the final. The A Final was a 33-kart race won by Blake Southan, with the top of the field covered by around 11 seconds across 14 laps. Nelson held his own in a high-quality field and crossed the line gaining places from his starting position.

Also worth noting: Nelson won his Test 2 Group 1 practice session earlier on Saturday, which showed the pace that was available from the outset of the weekend.

Putting It Together

WMKC Round 3 added more championship points to Nelson’s tally and another A Final appearance to his season record. The lap times in qualifying and the final both show a driver who belongs in that company. The work between sessions from the team at Tooley Motorsport continues to give Nelson a competitive package at every round.
