SuperOne’s penultimate weekend of the season took the Junior Rotax field to Whilton Mill, and few drivers had a weekend quite like Nelson Taylor across Rounds 9 and 10.
Round 9: pole to podium, with a fight along the way
Nelson topped the timesheets in qualifying to take pole for the opening race of the weekend. Heat 1 was lights to flag, a strong restart after a red flag further down the field sealing the win. Heat 2 told a different story, leading the opening laps before a bruised rib picked up in Heat 1 began affecting his focus, dropping him to fourth. The combined heat results still secured pole for the Final.
Nelson and teammate Jude Puddefoot pulled clear of the field in the Final before a red flag brought it to a temporary halt. After the restart, contact involving Jude left Nelson out front, and he led until contact from second place on the final lap pushed him wide, dropping him to third. A post-race penalty for the race winner briefly promoted Nelson to second, before officials reinstated the original result. The podium stood as third, pole, a heat win, a podium, and a bruised rib carried through most of the day.
Round 10: a fight for every point
Round 10 opened with a throttle issue in qualifying, Nelson’s shoe catching and holding it slightly open through corners. Despite that, he fought through to P5, enough of a platform to build the day from.
Heat 1 brought a controlled drive that kept him around P5 for most of the race, before penalties further up the order promoted him to a well earned P3. Heat 2 went the other way, a scrappy start dropping him to P7, a mid-race incident bringing a neutralisation, and a costly restart that forced him to the outside of the final chicane after another kart was pushed wide. Contact with the wall ended that race early.
The Final started from P11, and with nothing to lose Nelson attacked from the lights, carving through the field fast. Battles through traffic came at a cost, dropping him out of touch with the lead group and into a lonely second half in P7, though the pace never dropped, closing several seconds on the group ahead with the speed to have caught them given a few more laps. Post-race penalties saw him classified P6 at the flag.
Whilton Mill is one of the most technical circuits on the SuperOne calendar, a fast, flowing layout that punishes any driver not fully committed from the opening corner. Running this deep into a race weekend, twice, while managing an injury picked up mid-event, says as much about physical resilience as it does about raw driving ability.
A championship weekend that had everything
Two rounds, a pole position, a heat win, two podium-calibre drives and a genuine fight through adversity in both Finals. Nelson’s weekend closes the penultimate round of the SuperOne season with the gap to the championship lead narrowing.

Weekends like this rarely come down to a single highlight. Nelson’s Round 9 had pole position, a heat win, and a Final podium earned while carrying a rib injury picked up mid-race, a genuinely tough combination to manage over a full day of racing. Round 10 asked a different question entirely, recovering from a mechanical issue in qualifying and a wall strike in Heat 2, then attacking from P11 in the Final purely because there was nothing left to lose. Two very different days, and the same result both times, points on the board and a driver who kept finding pace no matter what the session threw at him.
